General Information of Mérida |
Mérida is the type of place where visitors can see the real México. Every Sunday is a party, and you're invited to Mérida en Domingo for dancing, marimba concerts in St. Lucía Park, and outdoor markets where handmade hammocks, Panama hats, rugs, and other craftworks are arranged for sale. Mérida is renowned for its central market, or mercado. Evening concerts and traditional dancing are common events throughout the week in Mérida's many plazas.
But Mérida has even more to offer than music and markets. For water lovers, the Gulf of México and a 231-mile stretch of tropical beach are only 20 minutes away. In the city, horse-drawn carriages clop down the tree-lined Paseo de Montejo, past historic mansions whose architectural styles reflect French and Italian influences. The Museums of Anthropology and Natural History are definite stops, and dozens of restaurants offer everything from traditional Yucatán fare to classic French cuisine.
Although Mérida bustles with
modernity, it is a gateway to the ancient Mayan world. Easy day trips whisk
visitors out of the 20th century to the ruins at Chichén
Itzá and
Uxmal
and the majesty and mystery of monuments built by one of the most advanced
civilizations ever to exist in the ancient Americas.

Prepare your abstract on letter-sized paper, leaving margins of at least two cm on the four sides. Maximum length of the abstract should be two pages. It is recommended that the abstract be typed single spaced, with a Times 12 pitch font. Underline the name of the presenting author. Please indicate which of the sessions is most suitable for your work (see Preliminary Program).
You can use three alternatives to submit your abstract (please, use only one):
- Through e-mail: Prepare your abstract, under the indicated guidelines, using the program Word. Save the document as a RTF file (Rich Text Format), using the surname of the presenting author and the extension RTF. Indicate in the body of the message the name of the file, the type of computer and program version that you used, the name of the most suitable session and if you are willing to present your work as an oral talk. Attach your file to the message and send it to plasbiol@cifn.unam.mx . Use this alternative if your abstract contains figures.
- Through the Symposium home page: in the home page of the Symposium ( http://www.cifn.unam.mx/plasbiol98 ) go to Registration Form. Fit the text in the space provided. Do not use this alternative if your abstract contains figures.
- Through regular mail: prepare your abstract according the indicated guidelines and print it on good quality plain paper; do not fold the abstract. Indicate on a separate page the name of the most suitable session and if you are willing to present your work as an oral talk.
